David Ness is Executive Director, Network Signalling Services (NSS) at VIDA Rail. David leads a dedicated, multi-disciplinary team focussed on tackling systemic issues which are hampering the value and operational benefits available through informed, strategically derived signalling design and delivery. While primarily focussed on the needs of Victoria’s rail network David firmly believes all railways can and should learn and build from the experiences of each other. In this regard the current revolution in the adoption of new signalling technologies that is upon us, presents a major opportunity to re-evaluate current policies and practices with a view to changing behaviours to those that will maximise the long-term benefits that standardisation and interoperability really offer. Victoria’s NSS, led by David, has championed significant change in the areas of strategic planning, engineering standards, improved industry engagement, and advancing consistent practices for the sector.
