Melanie Bowden is the Pre-Contracts Manager NSW/QLD at John Holland, and a rail infrastructure leader with more than 17 years of experience across Australia and the United Kingdom. Her career spans senior project delivery and pre-contracts leadership roles, with extensive expertise in major rail infrastructure projects, including Crossrail (UK) and Sydney Metro City & Southwest Linewide Works (SMC&SW LW) projects. Melanie received the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) 2024 NSW Project Manager of the Year award in recognition of her leadership as Project Director of the Dubbo Regional Rail Facility project, and the Permanent Way Institute’s Young Achievement Award for her work on SMC&SW LW.
Melanie is passionate about fostering diversity within the industry and supporting the next generation of rail professionals. She is a strong advocate for developing future leaders and creating opportunities for the leaders of tomorrow. Melanie has previously served on the Australasian Railway Association (ARA) Young Leaders Advisory Board and the ARA Women in Rail Committee, and continues to support initiatives that promote leadership development, capability growth, and inclusion across the sector.
