Steve Bickley leads the rail consulting business for Abbott Risk Consulting, an independent organisation providing safety and risk management services to high-risk industries in Australia and around the world. He was previously an Executive with the Office of the National Rail Safety Regulator (ONRSR) where he helped define the regulator’s direction on SFAIRP and has held the role of professional head of risk at Australia’s largest passenger rail operator.
Steve started his career in the aftermath that followed several major UK train accidents and has worked extensively in safety ever since. He chairs the Working Group overseeing the international handbook on engineering safety management (iESM) and is passionate about training others in good safety practice. Steve is fortunate to have consulted in risk and safety matters to more than 100 clients across Australia, Asia, Europe and North America.
