Jesse is a mechanical engineer whose career has spanned continents and some of the rail industry’s most complex challenges. After a mercifully brief career initiation in Melbourne’s automotive sector, he relocated to the UK where he spent nearly a decade with the Rail Safety and Standards Board (RSSB), working across R&D and long-term strategic planning. There, he developed deep expertise in risk, decision-making, system optimisation, interoperability, and safety; experience directly applicable to the same priorities facing Australia’s railways today.
Returning to Australia, now firmly in love with rail, Jesse joined the Rail Industry Safety and Standards Board (RISSB, now ARiSO) in 2012, where he led the delivery of national standards and helped shape the industry’s safety agenda. He later joined the Australasian Railway Association, supporting senior industry leaders through executive forums and the development of rail safety policy.
Jesse is now Director of Safety and Sites, supporting around 100 team members at Rail First, Australia’s premier locomotive and wagon leasing provider. He is, by his own admission, finally accountable for putting his own advice into operational practice, looking after real people, working on real assets, with real consequences.
