Garrie Napier

Rail Safety Manager

Metro Trains Melbourne (MTM)

Garrie is an operations and safety leader with around 15 years of experience across Australia’s rail and road transport sectors. His career has spanned fleet and network operations, commercial practice, account management, project integration, and health and safety leadership, giving him a broad, systems-level perspective on how people, processes, technology and commercial considerations intersect to deliver safe and efficient transport outcomes.

Currently Rail Safety Manager at Metro Trains Melbourne, Garrie works with Network Operations to embed continuous improvement and strengthen safety performance through a systems-based approach. His work combines industry benchmarking and safety improvement initiatives with direct engagement across frontline and operational teams, translating complex challenges into practical solutions and building capability through coaching, collaboration and workforce engagement.

Garrie is currently undertaking a Master of Occupational Health and Safety at RMIT University, with a specialisation in Human Factors and Ergonomics. His professional and academic interests centre on proactive safety improvement, human and organisational performance, and the application of macroergonomics to understand and improve the interactions between people, technology, and organisational systems. He is motivated by creating workplaces where people are safe, supported and empowered to perform, as well as identifying initiatives that deliver measurable safety and operational value.
