We are pleased to announce seven opportunities for pre-conference site tours on Tuesday 25 November 2025 for registered delegates. Spaces are limited so early booking is essential.
- All site tours will depart from, and return to, Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC).
- The pricing displayed for each tour will confirm your position on the tour and cover the cost of transport to and from MCEC.
- Please note: tour 7 is an expression of interest only – we will confirm if the tour is proceeding four weeks prior to departure date.

Tour 7: Suburban Rail Loop Authority
Please note – this tour is an expression of interest only. The tour will be confirmed four (4) weeks prior to the event, with EOIs notified whether it is moving forward or otherwise and invited to register.
Come along for an exclusive look at an SRL East site, as we prepare to begin tunnelling in 2026 on Victoria’s largest rail infrastructure project, and plan for Melbourne to grow and grow well with Australia’s largest housing project.

This tour allows AusRAIL PLUS 2025 guests a chance to see Melbourne’s newest heavy rail rolling stock project up close and visit Metro Trains Melbourne’s Newport Rail Workshops. This provides tour guests with the chance to see one of Melbourne’s major train stabling and maintenance facilities, including a chance to tour Melbourne’s newest X’Trapolis 2.0 metropolitan trains, currently being manufactured by Alstom in Victoria.
These new trains are being tested across the network throughout 2025 by MTM, Alstom and the Department of Transport and Planning, greatly improving reliability, accessibility and comfort for passengers. This is a great opportunity for delegates to speak to experts on site and get a first-hand experience of this exciting new project.

The new Maidstone Tram Maintenance Depot is a success story of sensitive urban renewal and Victoria’s steadfast commitment to public transport.
Built on the old Maribyrnong migrant hostel site, this project will be the home of Melbourne’s next-generation G Class trams and has been designed as a state-of-the-art facility to maintain and house most of the new fleet.
The facility will include 11 maintenance roads, a wheel lathe, and a fully appointed workshop designed specifically to service the G Class, and potential to stable more than 60 trams.

Delegates will visit Australia’s largest rail manufacturing site in Dandenong, which is currently working on three key projects: VLocity, XT2, and the G Class (Next Generation) tram.
The tour provides an overview of the differences between train and tram manufacturing processes. It also includes a look at the recent $40 million investment made to prepare the site for serial production of the NGT and XT2 CBS fleets.
