The Centre for Railway Engineering (CRE) is an industry focused research centre hosted by CQUniversity and located in Rockhampton. CRE is a provider of world-class research to the rail industry, delivering innovative solutions, engineering consulting and commercial outcomes.
Through its research and close collaboration with industry, CRE has become internationally recognised as a leader in the provision of applied engineering research for railway owners, operators and manufacturers. The Centre is specifically known for expertise in rollingstock, multi-body dynamics, simulation, condition monitoring and non-linear modelling.
Research and consulting projects currently focus on the following areas: battery technologies, decarbonisation, derailment simulation, digital twins, dynamic modelling and simulation development, energy analysis, friction and wear, hydrogen technologies, large data and simulation studies using high performance computing, locomotive traction, product design and development, roadworthiness simulation, smart sensors, systems engineering, mineral train tippler simulation, track standards, train dynamics/simulation, train control, vehicle dynamics/simulation and wheel-rail contact.
