Professor Ravi Ravitharan is a recognised leader and subject matter expert in the railway industry, with thirty four years of experience in railway research. He is the Director of Monash Institute of Railway Technology (IRT) based at Monash University, a successful world-renowned railway applied research centre. He was appointed Professor (Practice) in recognition of his significant contribution through leading Monash IRT to expand and thrive, delivering cutting-edge research and technology for the benefit of the railway industry.

Professor Ravitharan has been awarded the prestigious Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering (ATSE) Clunies Ross Award in 2014 for the application of science and technology for the benefit of Australia. He is a Fellow of Engineers Australia, Chartered Professional Engineer and Engineering Executive.
